Our Trecco Bay Break in a Private Caravan
We recently booked a Trecco Bay private caravan instead of a Parkdean lodge. This time, we opted for a rented static caravan—just two rows back from the seafront, offering peace and quiet and a lovely sea breeze.
It was part of the larger Trecco Bay caravan park, but with the extra benefit of booking directly through a private owner. The downside? A bit of a hike to the main facilities. That wasn’t ideal with two tired 11-year-olds in tow, but the quiet setting and partial sea view made it worth it.
The caravan itself was well-maintained and surprisingly spacious. It had everything we needed—comfy beds, a decent shower, and a small but workable kitchen. We even had a little veranda to sit with a cuppa each morning, wrapped in hoodies, watching the early dog walkers go by.
Quiet Nights and Seaside Views
Staying near the coast gave this Trecco Bay holiday a relaxed, back-to-nature feel. We’d wake to the sound of gulls and fall asleep without the hum of entertainment venues nearby.

Later, we hit the arcades. There’s something ageless about the buzz of 2p machines. Even in our 60s, it still makes us smile. Trecco Bay might be known for its family holiday fun, but it has something for everyone. We even got dressed up for Halloween – which was a first for me!
Walking into Porthcawl – Bittersweet
We walked into Porthcawl one afternoon. It was a bit of a trek, but it felt good to stretch the legs. Sadly, we heard the fairground is closing. It looked tired, yes, but it’s part of the area’s heritage.
This seaside town used to buzz during the miners’ fortnight. Now, with plans for flats, it feels like another bit of nostalgia is fading. But we still enjoyed the visit—an ice cream by the sea, a few surfers braving the waves, and a mooch around the shops.
Cosy Moments on our Trecco Bay Holiday
Of course, it rained—this is Wales, after all. But it gave us a reason to slow down. We huddled in our private holiday home, watched a film, and dusted off some old board games.
Later, we embraced the drizzle and walked the beach in waterproofs. The boys thought it was hilarious. Drenched and laughing, we ended the day with hot chocolate and dry socks—pure family holiday Trecco Bay magic.
