Parkdean Christmas & New Year Breaks 2026: What Actually Happens?
What is it actually like to spend Christmas or New Year at a holiday park?
It is something we’ve become increasingly curious about at SixtyRocks. We’ve stayed at Parkdean resorts at different times of the year, including Trecco Bay and Ty Mawr, but we’ve never actually spent Christmas Day at a holiday park.
We have, however, stayed at Trecco Bay over Halloween. The park really embraced the occasion, with themed activities and entertainment, and even we ended up dressing up – which was a first for me!
Our Halloween stay at Trecco Bay – we’ve experienced one of Parkdean’s big seasonal breaks, although Christmas would be a new one for us.
That got us wondering what Parkdean is actually like over Christmas and New Year. Is the swimming pool open? Is there entertainment on Christmas Day? Can somebody else cook Christmas dinner? What happens if you don’t want the organised meal? And are these breaks really just for families with young children?
We did some digging to find out.
Parkdean Christmas 2026 – the quick answer
For 2026, Parkdean is running its full Winter Wonderland programme at six holiday parks:
- Camber Sands
- Cayton Bay
- Trecco Bay
- Ty Mawr
- Warmwell
- Vauxhall – new for 2026
There are also festive Christmas and New Year breaks at White Cross Bay and Fallbarrow in the Lake District, although these offer a different experience from the six main Winter Wonderland parks.
The important thing we discovered is that a Parkdean Christmas isn’t simply a normal summer-style holiday park break with some tinsel added. The programme changes over the festive period – and Christmas Day itself is rather different from the days around it.
What is Parkdean Winter Wonderland?
Parkdean says there are more than 40 festive-themed activities across its six Winter Wonderland parks during the season, although the exact programme varies by park and date and some activities cost extra.
Depending on where and when you stay, the programme can include pantomimes, festive shows, skating, Christmas crafts, Santa experiences, Elf Academy, PAW Patrol activities and entertainment for toddlers.
One thing worth knowing is that some of the Santa-related activities finish after Christmas Eve. So if meeting Santa is particularly important to your children, don’t assume everything advertised for Winter Wonderland will still be running after Christmas Day.
Two of the Christmas parks we already know
Trecco Bay
Trecco Bay is one of the Parkdean resorts we know particularly well. It is a huge park in Porthcawl and, from our own visits, there is usually plenty going on.
We’ve stayed there during Halloween and saw how different the atmosphere can become when the park embraces a seasonal event. We dressed up, joined in with the Halloween fun and watched the nearby Porthcawl fireworks from the park.
Watching the Porthcawl fireworks from Trecco Bay during our Halloween stay.
That doesn’t mean we can tell you what Trecco is like at Christmas – we haven’t experienced that ourselves – but it does give us some idea of how the park can change for a major seasonal break.

For Christmas 2026, Trecco Bay’s Christmas break starts on 23 December and runs for four nights. It also has a four-night New Year break starting on 29 December.
Ty Mawr
We’ve also stayed at Ty Mawr in North Wales, another of the six full Winter Wonderland parks.
Our visit there had a rather personal reason behind it: we used the park as our base while trying to find the trees planted for our twins through the Welsh Government’s PLANT! project.

Ty Mawr’s Christmas 2026 break begins on 23 December and runs for five nights, while its New Year break begins on 28 December for five nights.
So what actually happens on Christmas Day?
This was probably the biggest surprise from our research.
Parkdean’s normal park facilities are closed on Christmas Day.
The main venue opens specifically for guests who have pre-booked Christmas dinner, but you shouldn’t arrive expecting the swimming pool and the normal programme of park activities to be running throughout Christmas Day.
At first that may sound disappointing, particularly when you’ve booked something called Winter Wonderland. But the more we thought about it, the more we could see another side to it.
You get the entertainment and festive atmosphere around Christmas, but Christmas Day itself can become a quieter family day in your caravan or lodge.
That doesn’t sound entirely terrible to us!
What about Christmas dinner?
Parkdean offers a traditional Christmas Day meal which can be booked separately.
We found older menus and prices online while researching this article, but we haven’t found a detailed 2026 menu and price that we’re confident enough to quote here. Rather than give you an old price and pretend it applies to 2026, we’ll update this article when the current details are clear.
You don’t have to book Parkdean’s Christmas dinner. The caravans and lodges have kitchens, so you can cook your own Christmas dinner in your accommodation instead.
Whether cooking Christmas dinner in a caravan sounds wonderfully cosy or your idea of a nightmare probably depends on your family!
Can you swim over Christmas?
Some of the Winter Wonderland parks have swimming pool seasons extending through the festive period and into early January.
However, that does not mean the swimming pools are open on Christmas Day. Parkdean specifically says normal facilities are closed on 25 December.
If swimming is important to your family, we’d check the current timetable for your particular park and dates rather than assuming the pool will be available every day of your break.
Is a Parkdean Christmas only for families with young children?
A lot of the Winter Wonderland advertising understandably concentrates on children – Santa, PAW Patrol, crafts and festive activities feature heavily.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean these breaks are only suitable for families with small children.
Parkdean itself describes Trecco Bay, Cayton Bay and Vauxhall as some of the more action-packed choices, while Warmwell offers a more tranquil countryside setting. Fallbarrow in the Lake District has a more limited entertainment programme and could appeal to people who want a quieter festive break.
We’ve also seen people online asking whether Christmas holiday park breaks are suitable for older couples or people travelling without children. We think that’s a perfectly reasonable question.
There are already plenty of hotels offering traditional Christmas packages for adults and older guests. A holiday park gives you something slightly different – your own accommodation, the option to cook for yourself and, depending on the park, countryside or coastal walks straight from your doorstep.
Going the week before Christmas might suit us even better
One option that particularly caught our attention was going before Christmas.
Parkdean has Winter Wonderland breaks throughout December, and selected midweek dates also offer an optional all-inclusive package covering meals and selected drinks.
For example, Trecco Bay and Ty Mawr both have four-night midweek Winter Wonderland breaks beginning on 14 December 2026 with the all-inclusive option available.
For us, this could actually be the sweet spot: enjoy the lights, entertainment and excitement while everybody is looking forward to Christmas, then come home for Christmas Day itself.
Have you ever noticed that Christmas music doesn’t sound quite the same after Christmas Day? We can happily listen to it for weeks beforehand, but somehow the magic starts disappearing remarkably quickly once the big day is over!
Would we spend Christmas Day at a holiday park?
For us, spending Christmas Day at a holiday park would be difficult at the moment. We have family commitments and dependants, and we wouldn’t want to leave anyone behind. Taking everybody with us would make it a considerably more expensive Christmas too.
There was also a time when going away at Christmas simply wasn’t an option.
There was a time when going away for Christmas really wasn’t an option for us!
Our boys are older now, but they still like waking up at home and opening their Christmas stockings, and we’re not quite ready to give that up yet.
That may change as we all get older.
And strangely, the more we’ve thought about it, the closure of the usual facilities on Christmas Day doesn’t necessarily put us off either.
If we eventually spent Christmas at a holiday park, I think I’d quite enjoy cooking Christmas dinner in the lodge and then going for a family Christmas walk through the countryside – perhaps even walking to a local pub – rather than having clubhouse-style Christmas songs blasting out all afternoon.
Maybe one year we’ll try it.
New Year might appeal to us even more
While researching this article, something else occurred to us.
Of all the festive holiday park breaks, New Year might actually be the one that appeals to us most.
We both remember when New Year’s Eve felt like a real community event. At midnight people would come out of their houses, neighbours would be in the street and everybody seemed to celebrate together.
Over the years that has gradually disappeared where we live. We still open the front door at midnight, but these days we’re more likely to see the odd taxi driving past. New Year can sometimes feel like a bit of an anti-climax.
That’s where the idea of spending New Year at a holiday park suddenly starts to make sense.
Parkdean’s New Year breaks include themed entertainment, live acts, family shows, food and drink and daytime activities. Its 2026 festive programme is specifically promoting New Year’s Eve celebrations leading up to midnight.
Our boys are older now and can actually stay awake for it too. Rather than watching the television countdown and then opening the front door to an empty street, we’d be somewhere full of other families who had also gone away because they wanted to celebrate New Year.
We haven’t tried it yet, so we can’t tell you what it’s really like. But of all the festive holiday park ideas we’ve looked at while researching this article, New Year is probably the one that has surprised us most by how much it appeals.
How much does a Parkdean Christmas or New Year break cost?
Prices change according to park, accommodation, dates and availability, so we don’t think a long table of prices would be particularly useful – it could be out of date almost as soon as we publish it.
When we researched this article in September 2026, Parkdean was advertising Christmas and New Year breaks at a range of prices depending on the park, with some Christmas stays starting at around the £500 mark.
We’d recommend checking Parkdean’s current prices directly before making any decision.

What about Park Holidays in winter?
Park Holidays offers a rather different type of winter break.
For winter 2026/27, most of its parks are available for accommodation-only stays from 2 November 2026 to 4 March 2027. That means the usual on-park facilities are closed during those winter stays.
There are exceptions. Park Holidays specifically highlights Rye Harbour in Sussex and Brynteg in Wales for winter stays with facilities available.
So this isn’t really a direct alternative to Parkdean’s Winter Wonderland programme. But for somebody who actually likes the idea of a quieter winter escape – using a caravan or lodge as a base for walks, pubs and exploring the surrounding area – it could be worth considering.

What about Butlins and Center Parcs?
They’re definitely on our list.
Both Butlins and Center Parcs offer substantial festive programmes of their own, but the experience is different enough that we don’t want to squeeze them into a couple of paragraphs and pretend we’ve properly compared them.
We’ll be looking at those separately and eventually bringing the different options together in a wider SixtyRocks guide to UK holiday parks at Christmas and New Year.
We’ve stayed at both Butlins and Center Parcs ourselves, so we’ll be able to combine the official information with our own experience of the resorts – although, just like Parkdean, we haven’t actually stayed at either over Christmas Day.

Our first impressions
The biggest thing we’ve learned from researching Parkdean Christmas breaks is that it’s important to understand exactly what you’re booking.
The words Winter Wonderland might make you imagine a non-stop programme of entertainment throughout Christmas Day. The reality is more nuanced: there is plenty of festive activity around Christmas, but Christmas Day itself is deliberately quieter, with the normal facilities closed.
For some families that will be disappointing. For others, it could be exactly the balance they’re looking for – festive entertainment before and after the big day, but Christmas Day itself spent together in the lodge or caravan.
Then there’s New Year, which we hadn’t really considered when we started researching this article. Strangely, that’s the break that may have tempted us most.
If we eventually try Christmas or New Year at a holiday park ourselves, we’ll come back and update this guide with what actually happened.
