Butlins Minehead

We stayed at Butlins Minehead in the Bayside Apartments during the February half-term. The apartments are right on the seafront overlooking the beach, and the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows were genuinely impressive — it felt more like staying in a seaside hotel than a traditional holiday camp.

Butlins Minehead is the largest of the Butlins resorts and has a huge range of entertainment, restaurants, activities, and its own fairground, all within walking distance inside the resort.

Facilities

Butlins Minehead is more like a resort than a holiday park, with a huge range of entertainment and activities all on site. The Skyline Pavilion is the centre of the resort and hosts shows, live entertainment, arcades, soft play, and restaurants.

There is also a traditional fairground, swimming pool complex, sports activities, and various shows throughout the day and evening. During our stay we saw the Masked Singer show and a pantomime, which were both very popular with families.

Food and Drink

There are lots of food options at Butlins Minehead, ranging from restaurants and pubs to takeaway outlets and coffee shops. Most of the main food outlets are located inside or around the Skyline Pavilion, so everything is easy to reach without leaving the resort.

You could easily stay on site for the whole break without needing to leave for food, although Minehead town is also within walking distance if you want more choice.

Things To Do Nearby

Butlins Minehead is located right next to a long sandy beach and within walking distance of Minehead town. The resort is also close to Exmoor National Park, Dunster Castle, and the West Somerset Railway, which is a heritage steam railway running through the countryside.

The location makes it a good base if you want a mix of resort entertainment and days out exploring Somerset and Exmoor.

Our Thoughts

Butlins Minehead is very different from most holiday parks because it feels more like a self-contained resort. Everything is in one place — accommodation, entertainment, restaurants, fairground, swimming pool, and beach — so once you arrive, you don’t really need to drive anywhere.

The Bayside Apartments were excellent and the sea views made the stay feel quite special. The resort is busy and lively, especially during school holidays, but that’s part of the Butlins experience. If you want constant entertainment and lots to do for children, it’s hard to beat.

The only downside of our particular trip was that we all caught a nasty cold during the stay — nothing to do with Butlins, just bad luck — but despite that we still really liked the accommodation and would stay in the Bayside Apartments again.
