Butlins Bognor Regis

We stayed at Butlins Bognor Regis in the Ocean Hotel during the summer half-term and were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. The hotel stay felt very comfortable and much more like a seaside hotel break than a traditional holiday camp, and the location right next to the seafront made it a really easy and relaxing place for a family break.

Butlins Bognor is smaller than Minehead but feels more modern, with several hotels, the large Skyline Pavilion, swimming pool, arcades, restaurants, and lots of activities all within walking distance inside the resort.

We stayed in the Ocean Hotel, which is the largest hotel at Butlins Bognor Regis. Our room was more like a small suite with two separate sleeping areas, which worked really well for a family because the boys effectively had their own space and TVs.

The Ocean Hotel also includes a dining plan with buffet breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant, which was very convenient because everything was inside the building and we didn’t need to walk across the resort for meals.

Other accommodation options at Butlins Bognor include the Wave Hotel, Shoreline Hotel, and self-catering apartments.

Facilities

Butlins Bognor is packed with activities and entertainment for all ages. The Skyline Pavilion is the centre of the resort and includes arcades, shows, restaurants, soft play, and entertainment venues such as Studio 36.

During our stay we watched shows, explored the arcades, and visited the Play Xperience area which includes VR games and other activities. The VR arcade was very impressive and something quite different from the usual holiday park activities.   If you are interested, we made a whole video on the  VR- Cade below.

There is also the large swimming pool complex, fairground rides, and various sports and activity sessions available throughout the day.

Food and Drink

We had the dining plan at the Ocean Hotel which included buffet breakfast and evening meals, and we were genuinely impressed with the quality and choice. The restaurant overlooks the resort, which made breakfast particularly nice, and there was plenty of variety each evening.

Across the resort there are also various restaurants, takeaways, coffee shops and bars inside the Skyline Pavilion, so you could easily stay on site for the whole break without needing to leave for food.

Things To Do Nearby

One of the nice things about Butlins Bognor is that you can easily walk out of the resort straight onto the seafront promenade. The promenade is flat and easy to walk along, with cafés, fish and chip shops, and places to sit and watch the sea.

It was nice being able to step outside the busy resort and go for a quieter walk along the coast.

The nearest station is Bognor Regis railway station, which has regular services from London Victoria and other southern destinations. The train journey from London takes around 1 hour 40–50 minutes.

From Bognor Regis station, Butlins is:

  • About 5 minutes by taxi, or
  • A short bus ride.

By Bus

The Stagecoach 700 bus runs regularly between the train station and the Butlins area, stopping near the resort entrance. The journey only takes around 5–10 minutes.

Our Thoughts

We weren’t sure what to expect from Butlins Bognor, but it turned out to be a really enjoyable break. Staying in the Ocean Hotel made the experience very comfortable, especially with the dining plan.

The resort is busy and lively, especially during school holidays, but everything is very well organised and the staff were extremely helpful during our stay, especially when the lifts were temporarily out of order.

Being able to walk straight onto the seafront was a big plus, and overall we would definitely consider staying at the Ocean Hotel again.
