Why Is This So Hard?

I realised the other day that some everyday things feel harder than they should.

Not the big things — the small, ordinary ones.

Not the life-changing decisions, or the heavy milestones, or the things you mean to put effort into.

I mean the tiny things that should be simple.
Like reading the cooking instructions on a packet.

That Moment of Recognition

I was trying to follow some cooking directions recently and found myself staring at the text like it was code in a foreign language.

Half the time it feels like you need:

  • perfect lighting
  • or a microscope
  • or both

…just to work out how long to cook a joint of beef.

And then there are those weird maths instructions — you know the kind:

“Cook for twenty minutes per pound… then another twenty minutes.”

By the time you’ve worked out how much your piece of meat weighs… you’ve forgotten what you were supposed to be doing in the first place.

And Then There Are the Instructions You Can’t Find

Sometimes the instructions aren’t even where you expect them.

They’re tucked under the packaging.
So you have to peel things off carefully… without ripping it…

…which apparently requires perfect fingernails and a steady hand.

I’m not asking for a magnifying glass and a degree in maths — just wording that a normal human can read without performing precision surgery in the kitchen.

A Quiet Observation

This isn’t a rant.

It’s one of those tiny recognitions — the kind that makes you think:

“Oh… I guess it’s not just me.”

We’ve all had that moment — when the thing in front of us should be easy, but it feels oddly… complicated.

And then you catch yourself thinking:

Why is this so hard?

A Small Thought to Leave You With

Maybe some things aren’t meant to be complicated — maybe the complexity just sneaks in uninvited.

Or maybe it’s simply the kind of thing that helps us chuckle a little at ourselves.

Because getting older doesn’t mean life resets.

It means we start noticing the little things… and then we make peaceful jokes about them.

If this made you nod (or smile) — you’re not alone.
Come back soon for the next quiet observation.
